Fundraising events

February open day and more  'The last Saturday in February is the date when the club traditionally provides hospitality to locals and visitors while persuading them to sponsor the club or give a donation! Rob Ritchie always puts on a really interesting display of shinty memorabilia and in 2010 it was the intention to enhance this by displaying some of our holdings normally in the safe keeping of Highland Archives. However the snow forced the cancellation of the Open Day for the first time which was a great disappointment. Keep a look out for alternative hospitality from the club during the season. The cost of sponsoring the Open Day in 2011 is £100. This is a bargain as it includes a house to house distribution of the Open Day leaflet to all houses in Newtonmore, Dalwhinnie & Laggan and all parts in between .

Newtonmore Strongest Man The inaugural event was held on a lovely sunny day on 20th June at the tennis courts. An interesting mix of events was held including carrying the heavy weights, the tyre flip, the heavy stones lift and the pick up pull. There were about 10 competitors not all of whom tried all the events. The overall winner was Norman Campbell. Watch out for this event being repeated in 2010.

Highland Games This will take place on Saturday 7th August 2010 and we will be running the bar as usual. We also hope to be running a dance in the village hall in the evening.

Newtonmore 10 mile race
The Business Association are organising this years event for Saturday 20th March and we hope to attract all the racers to watch our 1st team play Fort William after it. We have organised a dance in conjunction with the village hall committee. This year it is the Gary Innes band and the dance starts at 9.30

Best Player: Paul Macarthur
Best 2nd team player David Wilde
Most improved young player Michael Russell
We are currently consulting with the membership about returning the event to the hall and having it the week after the sale.

Race night A most successful Family race night was held on Saturday 20th February in the Village Hall. Over £1200 was raised for club funds. Many thanks to everyone who helped make this such a success.
