February open day and more  'The last Saturday in February is the date when the club traditionally provides hospitality to locals and visitors while persuading them to sponsor the club or give a donation!

Highland Games This will take place on Saturday 4th August 2012 and we will be running the bar as usual.
We intend to do some fundraising on the day possibly connected with the hill race

Newtonmore 10 mile race
This annual 10 mile race is organised by the Business Association and was again a great success in 2011. Volunteers from the shinty club helped as marshals as well as providing much appreciated sandwiches and cakes for runners after the race. A number of runners came and watched their first game of shinty and saw our 1st team win. Afterwards some of them took advantage of our complimentary drinks. This year the race is on Saturday 24th March, we again have arranged a home match for the 1st team and we will be offering complimentary drinks.

Shinty Sale The first Saturday in December 2011 saw the annual sale and we raised well over £2000 in addition to great sales of our merchandise which included new rain jackets, calendars and DVDs of the Camanchd Cup victory.

We are really grateful to the estates for the venison which made over £600; the tremendous generosity of Anisa Caine with her cards and pictures that raised over £400, the many people who donated baking, made Xmas decorations and parted company with bottles, spare items and cash both in donations and for buying the produce.

The lunches were a great success raising £360 and many thanks to all the volunteer cooks and helpers both for lunches and on the stalls. There were 4 raffles this time and well over £400 was raised from them. Home baking bric a brac and games made up the rest of our takings.

The 2012 Xmas Sale is on Saturday 1st December.

Shinty Dance A hugely enjoyable dinner dance was held in the village hall on Saturday 26th November to celebrate the retention of the Premier Division Championship and our first Camanachd Cup triumph for 25 years.

Player awards that were made on the night.
Best player of the season: Norman Campbell.
Best 2nd team player: Michael Ritchie.
Young player: Liam Mullender.

President Norman Macarthur again paid tribute to the commitment of the players throughout an exceedingly long season. He also thanked a very long list of volunteers who work in the background carrying out the multitude of tasks needed to keep the players supported, the pitch in good condition and the funds that enable the club to function.

The Glen Hotel provided the bar, catering and organisation for the evening and the Alice Dickson band managed to keep the floor full all night with an excellent performance.

David Holt gave his first public performance of what will be a future shinty classic to celebrate the Camanachd Cup victory titled TWENTY ELEVEN SEPTEMBER SEVENTEEN.
The words will be posted as an attachment to the December 2011 Newsletter and consequently available on this website.

The dance in 2012 will take place on Saturday 24th November in the Village Hall.

Strictly Come Dancing This event on 11th February 2011 has been described as the best night's entertainment in Newtonmore for years. Dance teacher Caroline Coomber had really enabled the 5 shinty players [Scott, Calum, Michael, Paul and Norman] and their partners to reach a level of proficiency no-one expected. Many thanks to Ellen Cheyne, Judith Houghton, Anne Connolly, Alison Jones and Jan Johnston for endangering their feet in support of the club. Scott and Judith were judged the winners on the night and over £2000 was raised for the club. Special thanks to Eddy Harrigan for   the organisation, comperes dave and Jo and Ian the DJ.

Sports relief Special mention must be made of our youngsters who used the opportunity of Sports Relief to do a joint fundraiser and support the club. They dribbled their way round the pitch individually and in teams and raised about £400 for the club.

Mile Race Before the 2012 season starts there will be a sponsored mile race along the village main street involving all the players.

Other Events Each year the players get involved in something during the year usually in cooperation with another community group. Keep your eye on the local press and look out for the posters.
