1] Sale and lunches Sat 6th Dec We are very grateful to
the Village Hall Committee for agreeing to take on the organisation
of the lunches. Contributions of puddings and home baking are
very welcome. Any excess can be sold in the sale. Lunches are
from noon and the sale starts at 2pm.
We will have the usual excellent choice of venison and home baking,
jams etc. This year we have a special chutney stall courtesy of
Anisa Caine. The bottle stall and raffle will be there [so donations
welcome] in addition to books and bric a brac. Don't miss the
special purchase of new merchandise particularly the outdoor jackets
and jerseys. Rob, Cammy and myself are happy to take things from
you in advance. Any help on the day would be most welcome either
with the lunches or the sale. Donations still welcome in kind
or in cash
3] Dinner dance This is at the Balavil Hotel on Saturday
6th December. A few tickets are still available from Brick priced
£20. Contact him on norman.macarthur@btinternet.com or 01540
673234 or 07903 050385
4] Coaching project Shinty has been on the curriculum
of the Grantown Primary school cluster in September and October
so we now have after school clubs started in Carrbridge and Abernethy
[Paul Mellis] and starting next Thursday in Grantown, where there
should be big enough numbers for Jane Nicol to take a boys and
a girls club. A girls club is also taking place in Kingussie on
a Monday night courtesy of Tina Gibson. Scott Campbell is taking
an under 14s after school club at Kingussie High School.
We have had a really positive response to the newspaper advert
for more coaches helped by the article Dave Fallows did as follow
up.
We hope after school clubs will start at Grantown Grammar in
the new year along with one at Alvie Primary. The hope is that
by the time of the Williamson 6s next year we will have an increase
in the numbers of teams and therefore the competition at Primary
school level. At a recent Sunday tournament in Grantown there
were over 70 children.
5] Annual General Meeting This will be on Friday 16th
January at 7.30pm in the clubhouse. Notices advertising this will
be put up in the usual places round the villages and all available
papers along with the agenda will be sent to my e-mail list. If
anyone would like any item put on the agenda could you let me
know before Xmas.
Amongst the proposals for the new season will be that season
tickets remain at the same price for club members at £30,
but that non-members will pay £35 which gives them annual
membership. Concessions will remain at £15 and £20
for non members. Player membership is proposed at £12 for
members and £17 for non members again giving membership
as well as covering individual registration with the Association.
6] Behaviour in Sport Committee You may have noticed in
the press that the events of the Newtonmore v Fort William semi
final match at the end of July are being considered by the Camanachd
Associations Behaviour in Sport Committee on 8th December They
received a report , critical of the behaviour of players and spectators
from the match referee Calum Duff, who resigned from being a referee
because of events that day.
The committee has made a response to the Association on the clubs
behalf highlighting some of the refereeing problems which were
a root causes of what happened. These were very well described
at the time in Dave Fallows reports in the Strathy which he has
alluded to again in recent weeks. Notwithstanding these refereeing
failures the committee has accepted that the behaviour of some
Newtonmore spectators and substitutes was unacceptable. We immediately
took action for instance by introducing a ban on non-coaching
staff being in front of the barrier.
7] Website We hope to make a number of improvements to
the content and the layout of the website for 2009. Peter Hebdon
who is updating the site for us has also kindly agreed to put
the results up so that the site is live.
