Newtonmore Camanachd Club

November 2009

1] On the Field The less said about the referee in the game against Kingussie the better. Despite this reverse the 1sts are sitting at the top of the table, but didn’t manage to score enough goals [or conceded too many] against Lochaber and Inverary to be the winners if it comes down to goal difference. We are all Kyles supporters now!

Whatever the outcome the 1sts have been generally recognised as the best team in the league this year and the unfortunate 6 week lay off undoubtedly was a great disadvantage to us. [Incidentally Ronald Ross has scored 51 of Kingussies 77 league goals].

The 2nds victory against Skye meant that they have been undefeated since they lost to the same team in July which is a great platform to build on for next season.

2] Sale and lunches This will be on Saturday 5th December at 2pm in the village hall as usual. Donations of cash are of course welcome, but this is also a chance to get some income from the club from your donations of home baking, bottles, plants, books etc.

Soup and pudding lunches are again going to be provided from noon. Donations of soups and puddings would be most welcome. I am very grateful to the 6 volunteers that have come forward to help with set up and service. We may need another 4 volunteers to help with stalls in the hall. Can you help?

The new merchandise range [see attached] is going to be available at the sale so you will have an excellent chance to get some Xmas presents

3] Annual dance Tickets for the Annual dinner dance to be held on Saturday 5th December 7 for 730pm at the Highlander Hotel are still available from Eddy Harrigan. Music is the party night combination of Kenny Nairn and Ian Grover. Tickets are £20 for members and £22.50 for non-members. Please contact Eddy at eddy.harrigan@hotmail.com Tel 01540 670159 or 07933 210725 to reserve your tickets.

I would be very grateful for any donations to the raffle for the dinner dance.

4] AGM This will be on Friday 15th January at 8pm in the clubhouse. If anyone has a motion for the AGM it would require to be with me by 1st January. The Committee will have one proposed amendment to the Constitution which currently has no provision for junior membership. This provision is needed in relation to our membership of the Camanachd Association and the insurance policy for youth players. The following addition to paragraph 12 will be proposed:

‘’ Any person below the age of 18 playing for or training with any of the club teams automatically becomes a junior member of the club. The club makes no membership charge to junior members and pays for their membership of the Camanachd Association’’

5] Some 2010 dates
AGM Friday 15th January at 8pm.
Family Race night Saturday 23rd January from 4pm.
Saturday 27th February Open day and challenge match.
Saturday 20th March Newtonmore 10mile race evening Ceilidh.

6] Tots events The first of the monthly tots sessions with Alvie, Laggan and Newtonmore attracted more than 30 enthusiastic players.

7] B & S Competitions The Area Coaching Committee has also arranged monthly sessions for older primary school youngsters. The last one in Grantown in November had over 30 youngsters there despite problems with communication about the date. The next session is on Sunday 13th December in the Badenoch centre.
