Newsletter August 2009

1] On the Field The 1sts have continued their fine form with victories against Glenurquhart, Fort William and Lochaber. We are now 4 points clear of Kingussie and with two home games coming up have an opportunity to consolidate our position and put more pressure on Kingussie who have two games in hand and have now lost three important games to different clubs.

2] Clubhouse improvements The new gate in front of the entrance is now in place and we hope to get the end railing removed and new steps shortly. Repairs are also taking place to the wall beside the gas storage tank.

We now have quotes for new cupboard space for merchandise and also have been getting competitive quotations with a view to getting new stocks of merchandise before the sale in December.

3] Fence post painting It's finished!

4] Shinty try outs at the Highland Folk Park About 100 visitors had a go over the holiday period. Better weather would have helped.

5] Fundraising A Family Race Night will be organised for later in the year and it is intended to have an event one Sunday in September building on the success of last year's marathon. Tickets for the Annual dinner dance to be held on Saturday 5th December at the Highlander Hotel are available from Eddy Harrigan. Music is the party night combination of Kenny Nairn and Ian Grover. Tickets will be £20 for members and £22 for non-members. Please contact Eddy at eddy.harrigan@hotmail.com to reserve your tickets.

6] Hosting finals At last years AGM it was agreed we would bid to host the 2010 Camanachd Cup Final so long as it did not put us at financial risk. The committee recently reviewed the conditions under which clubs could host the final and agreed that it was too great a risk e.g. at our own cost we would have had to hire a temporary stand. However we have offered to host the Balliemore and Sutherland Cup Finals.

7] Advertising Boards Many thanks to Raymond Stewart and the Newtonmore Craft Centre for agreeing to take advertising boards at the ground. This is a really important source of income for us and it gives those that advertise great exposure. If you know of someone who has a business and might be interested why not ask them on our behalf. The cost is only £350 [including the provision of the board] or three payments of £150, £105 & £105.
