Newtonmore Camanachd Club
May 2010
1] On the Field May turned out in some ways to be a bit of a disappointing month for the first team with two defeats to Kingussie in the league and the Mactavish cup. Progress was made in the Camanachd Cup against Glenorchy and we’ve got another tough draw away to Kyles Athletic which was our bogey team last year. However the most recent victory in the league against Lovat moved as back to the top of the Premier Division.
The second team had the chance of going second, but lost heavily to the bottom team Skye at home with a lacklustre performance. Perhaps this was the wake up call they needed and with the return of a couple of senior players had an excellent team performance to draw 1 – 1 with a very strong Fort William team who were relieved to get away with a point.
After heavy defeats to Kingussie the under 14s lost 3 - 0 away to Beauly and 2 – 1 in a close match against Lochaber. However in the latest match against Beauly they were a team transformed and with some excellent performances won comfortably 5- 0 which should give them some confidence.
2] Upcoming fixtures The 2nds rearranged game at the Dell against Kingussie is this Wednesday 2nd June at 7pm. On 12th June we have another home fixture against Kingussie this time in the Macaulay Cup.
3] Fundraising Many thanks to everyone who contributed towards the Marie Curie collection at the game against Kingussie on 1st May which raised the excellent sum of £279.
4] Shinty Marketing Leaflets These are now in most tourist outlets in Newtonmore, Laggan, Dalwhinnie, Kingussie, Kincraig, Boat of Garten and Aviemore. I would like some help in getting them into hotels, B&Bs, guest houses and other outlets in Carrbridge, Nethy Bridge and Grantown. If you are going to be in these villages for other purposes it only takes a couple of minutes at each stop. Please contact Ian Gibson if you can help.
4] Williamson 6s event This will now take place on Wednesday 23rd June starting at 6pm [not on a Sunday as listed in the fixture list and not on 16th June as previously rearranged due to a clash of tournaments!]. The PTA are dong the baking as well as the teas and the shinty club is taking care of the BBQ. We are very grateful to Macleans bakery of Forres for their sponsorship of the rolls this year.
5] Grass cutting equipment No offers of equipment have been forthcoming yet, so we are pursuing the option of trying to find grant money to buy a small sit on tractor as the non pitch areas are taking an inordinate amount of time to keep tidy without decent machines
6] Sponsorship There are two raffle sponsorships left at £10 each against Glasgow mid Argyll and Bute. Sponsorship of the refreshment supplies at £100 is also still available.
A number of other businesses have expressed an interest in taking out an advertising board. As a reminder this is £350 for 3 years or three annual payments of £150, £105 and £105.
7] Strictly come dancing Tickets for this must see event are going fast so please buy yours at EIS or from Eddy Harrigan as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
