Newtonmore Camanachd Club

September 2010

1] Final game Well the 1sts thumped Kingussie and comfortably beat Inverary so it’s all down to the last game against Fort William at An Aird this Saturday. We are expecting the biggest travelling support in years and we all hope we will be celebrating afterwards.

The 2nd team finished third in North Division 2 above both Fort William and Kingussie which was excellent. Not only that, but they scored a lot of goals.

2] Annual dance This will now take place in the Village Hall on Saturday 20th November with music from a fantastic band called the Approvals. The catering and bar are being provided by the Glen Hotel. Tickets priced £25 will be available from Eddy Harrigan and in EIS from Friday 8th October. To reduce the hassle of collecting money payment will be required to secure a ticket…..no IOUs! Please let Eddy know about any vegetarian meal requests.

3] Pitch improvements The spiking, sanding and fertilising was carried out in the worst weather of the summer so we still haven’t managed to brush the sand across the pitch. Further work is going to be undertaken to repair the goalmouths again.

4] Special General Meeting The annual general meeting needs to await the completion of the accounts in the New Year and due to the availability of key people this will probably not take place till late January. Because we want to sort out the team management arrangements in plenty time we will be holding a short Special General Meeting on Friday 26th November at 8pm in the clubhouse. Notices about this will be posted nearer the time.

5] Xmas sale Once again this is scheduled for the first Saturday in December which is the 4th this year. New ideas for stalls would be welcomed. We hope to be doing lunches again this year.

6] Badenoch and Strathspey Youth Coaching Initiative This project is coming towards a close. All the schools have had shinty as part of the curriculum and the majority are continuing with that. We have now managed to secure the services of volunteers to continue with the after school clubs in Carrbridge and Grantown and a Foundation skills course has been arranged for them and some of our own parents on Sunday 31st October at the Eilan.

7] Thanks The COOP Community Foundation has kindly given us a grant of £500 towards the cost of the disabled access and safety improvements round the clubhouse.

8] International selection Not all our players were available for selection, but congratulations to Norman Campbell and Scott Campbell on selection to the senior squad. We have three players deservedly in the under 21 squad…..Owen Fraser, Rory Kennedy and Steven Macdonald so congratulations to them too.
