Newtonmore Camanachd Club
August 2010
1] Sponsorship In case you did not see the photo in the Strathy I had included the photo of Harvey Aberdein of Aberdein Considine Solicitors officially handing over the 1st team strip to Danny Macrae this years captain. However my computer was unable to send the photo to the large distribution list! We are very grateful to Harvey and his colleagues for their continuing generous support to the club.
2] On the field The 2nds have had a very strong finish to the season scoring 17 goals in their last two games and look like finishing a strong fourth, an excellent position for a young team.
The 1sts just need to win their remaining 3 games to win the league! The fixture schedules have not been in our favour again this year with a three week break before our last home game against Kingussie on 4th September. We then have another three week break after Inverary away on 11th Sept before our final game against Fort William now rescheduled to 2nd October at An Aird.
3] Condition of the field There have been a lot of positive comments about the condition of the pitch since the major work last year. When the pitch was made it was recommended to have spiking, sanding and fertilising carried out every year and we are going ahead with that after the Kingussie game.
4] Annual dance This will now take place in the Village Hall on Saturday 20th November with music from a fantastic band called the Approvals. We are still awaiting confirmation of the costs of the evening, but tickets will be under £25.
5] Special General Meeting The annual general meeting needs to await the completion of the accounts in the New Year and due to the availability of key people this will probably not take place till late January. Because we want to sort out the team management arrangements in plenty time we will be holding a short Special General Meeting on Friday 26th November at 8pm in the clubhouse. Notices about this will be posted nearer the time.
6] Xmas sale Once again this is scheduled for the first Saturday in December which is the 4th this year. New ideas for stalls would be welcomed. We hope to be doing lunches again this year.
7] Highland Games weekend The bar was busy as usual and the merchandise stall sold over £400 of stock. Many thanks to Brick for organising the dance in the village hall.
8] 10 mile race This will take place on Saturday 19th March 2011. We hope to have a 1sts home game that day and intend to organise a dance in partnership with the Village Hall Committee as a fundraising event.
9] Sutherland Cup Final All the costs are not yet confirmed, but we expect to make a profit of over £1000 from the day. As a result of the success of our organisation, which received many positive comments, the committee have applied to host the 2011 Camanachd Cup Final.
