newtonmore 1st team premier league and Camanachd Champions 2011

Newtonmore Camanachd Club Newsletter
October 2011

1] League fixtures After convincing victories against Inverary and Oban Camanachd the question in many peoples minds is will the 1st teams season ever end?! The Kilmallie game is still next Saturday at 1430 away and the new Kyles date is 19th November also at 1430. I will let you know if this changes, either the date or the start time!

We are currently level on points against Kyles with an inferior goal difference of 6 so not just a victory, but the margin of any victory against Kilmallie will be important.

2] Under 17s On Saturday 29th the under 17s played Kinlochshiel and the 6 – 2 loss  perhaps did not do them justice. All the opposition were aged 17 so the Newtonmore side containing a number of much younger players did really well and it was superior strength that told in the end after a fairly even first half.

The next under 17 game is on Saturday 5th November at 1100 at Glenurquhart so why not go and support them before the Kilmallie game.

3] Awards success Congratulations are due to
Norman Macarthur Scottish Hydro Premier Division Coach of the Year and Marine Harvest coach of the year
Cammy Macdonald/Glen Tonkin Marine Harvest North Division coach of the year
Rory Kennedy Under 21 Player of the Year
Evan Menzies North Division 2 Player of the Year
And of course Norman Campbell for being awarded the captaincy for the two shinty/hurling internationals.

3] Merchandise If you want to see what merchandise is left all currently available items [and sizes where applicable] are on the website www.newtonmoreshinty.com We have had quite a number of orders from Newtonmore exiles following the Camanachd Cup victory.

The new items include the XL and XXL tracksuits which are only £35 for readers of this newsletter. It also includes ‘Natural Mechanical’ a story of Rockys childhood which would make an excellent present and is light to post.

The Shinty Club calendar should be available for sale at £5 each by 20th November. Many thanks to the businesses and individuals who agreed to sponsor a month.

Club logo rain jackets both adult and children should be here in time for the sale at the start of December.

4] Shooting wall and ball stop net Thanks to the Council Area Discretionary Fund grant of £1000 we can now proceed with this project which will be at the south end of the training pitch.

5] Shinty club Xmas sale I hope that Saturday 3rd December is in your diary and not just for the Folk weekend. We intend to be doing soup and puddings again so donations of those as well as home baking would be much appreciated. If anyone has some different fundraising ideas [and is volunteering to put them into practice] we’d like to hear from you.

Partly because the hall is being used later on as part of the folk weekend we will probably start the sale earlier at 1300 with lunches starting at 1230. Some people had commented last year that people coming to lunch at noon were not all staying for the sale. I will confirm the timings next month.

6] Pitch Many thanks to Rob Ritchie for returfing the goalmouths. Rob is also doing work to level out the track at the top of the pitch that got churned up due to the wet weather after the Highland Games.

We are waiting for a date for Sportsturf to come and do more substantial work drilling and top dressing the pitch and training area.

7] Player sponsorship The player sponsorship this year paid most of the cost of the tracksuits so many thanks to everyone who supported this. The committee has decided to repeat this for next year.

8] Golf match As you may have seen in the Strathy the golf club won the annual match this year.

9] Annual dance On behalf of the committee apologies to anyone who is disappointed in not getting a ticket. As I mentioned in a previous e-mail we had to establish criteria for allocating tickets. We could have sold 200 if we had a venue with that capacity. This is quite a turn round from a couple of years ago when only 105 people bought tickets!
